There are two types of attention-deficit disorders: attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and attention-deficit disorder (ADD). Both types are characterized by problems with focus and attention.
ADHD is the most commonly diagnosed form of attention-deficit disorder. It is characterized by hyperactive and impulsive behavior. People with ADHD often have difficulty sitting still and may be constantly moving. They may also have trouble focusing on one task and may be easily distracted.
ADD is a less common form of attention-deficit disorder. It is characterized by problems with focus and attention, but without the hyperactive and impulsive behavior. People with ADD often have difficulty sustaining attention on one task and may be easily distracted.
There is no single cause of attention-deficit disorders. They are thought to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
Treatment for attention-deficit disorders often includes medication and/or behavioral therapy.
